This Week in Monster Energy Supercross: Round 11 in Indianapolis, IN

450SX Class

  • Threat Rising: With his fifth win in the last seven races Eli Tomac has closed to within 17 points of Ryan Dungey in the championship, outscoring the champ by 12 points over the past month.
  • It’s in the Start: Tomac’s success can be directly attributed to his starts. He’s become the best starter in the division with a class-leading average of 5.1, compared to last season when he posted a 7.6 starting average.
  • Out of the Norm: Contrary to Tomac, Dungey’s prowess out of the gate has dropped dramatically. The champ has fallen from a class-leading average of 2.2 six races ago to 5.4 currently. He already has two starts outside the top 10, compared to zero last season.
  • Standing Tough: Dungey’s ability to recover from his hard luck off the start is unparalleled in the championship. He passed 13 riders en route to fourth in Daytona, and is passing an average of three riders per race to maintain his incredible 2.4 finishing average.
  • Daytona Love: In four 250SX Class starts at Daytona Jeremy Martin has one win, three podiums, and a worst result of sixth. He earned his first career supercross podium there and adds to his Daytona legacy with a runner-up effort in a memorable 450SX Class debut.
  • Hard Times: Illness has brought Marvin Musquin’s breakout sophomore season to a halt, leaving him outside the top 10 for back-to-back races after starting with eight straight top-10 results. His finishing average has dropped from 4.2 to 6.2 and he’s fallen from second to fourth in points.

Eastern Regional 250SX Class

  • A Win to Remember: After winning three of his first five career supercross starts Adam Cianciarulo had to wait nearly three years to make his return to the top step of the podium, winning at his home event and the landmark 500th race in 250SX Class history.
  • Seeing Green, Again: With Joey Savatgy in second, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki recorded its second 1-2 finish this season. The team has now grabbed the top two spots once in each regional championship, and has won six of 10 total 250SX Class races in 2017.
  • Pressure Grows: With his first finish off the podium in 2017 Zach Osborne’s lead in the championship now sits at single digits over Savatgy (-6) and Cianciarulo (-9) halfway through the title fight. Osborne showed his resiliency en route to fifth at Daytona, saving valuable points.
  • Emerging Talent: Dylan Ferrandis’ first career supercross podium came in his fourth start. He’s already the eighth different rider in the East Region to finish on the box this season. The result vaulted him from eighth to fifth in the championship.
