Corona, Calif. (January 24, 2018) – The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team will ride into Phoenix on the heels of its first win of 2018 with the Kawasaki KX250 adorning the coveted red plate. Point’s leader Joey Savatgy will look to break the tie at the top of the standings with another win, while teammate Adam Cianciarulo is ready to bounce back from an up and down weekend in Anaheim.
With the large football stadium layout coming into play this weekend, Savatgy looks to his recent good starts to be the key for the main event. Savatgy had been gaining speed and confidence over the opening rounds and will now focus on taking over sole possession of the championship standings in Phoenix.
“I had a lot of fun last weekend with the different format, but now we’re back to traditional racing with only one chance to have a good race,” said Savatgy. “It was important to get good starts last week, but starts are always important and it would be nice to keep it up in Phoenix and minimize the mistakes.”
Cianciarulo felt extremely lucky to have been able to race after going down in practice in Anaheim. Not only did he race, but he also collected a fourth-place finish, narrowly missing the podium. In Phoenix, Cianciarulo is looking to join his teammate back on the podium.
“It’s been tough to make the mistakes I did in Houston and then have that practice crash in Anaheim,” said Cianciarulo. “I feel like this is really only my second season riding supercross and I’m still learning a lot. I know the speed is there so I just need to make small adjustments and I feel like I can end up back on top of the podium.”
Prior to Saturday’s race, the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders will be signing autographs on Friday, January 26 from 6 – 7 p.m. at Kelly’s Kawasaki in Mesa, Arizona.
Saturday’s race from University of Phoenix Stadium will be broadcast live on FS1 or the FOX Sports GO app starting at 8 p.m. ET.
