Monster Energy® Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac Races to his 10th Podium Finish of the Season

Foothill Ranch, Calif. (April 22, 2018) – Round 13 of Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship was contested under the sunny sky of Foxborough, Massachusetts as Monster Energy® Kawasaki rider Eli Tomac had all 38,404 fans on their feet cheering as he raced his KX™450F to a second place finish, while teammate Tyler Bowers went on to finish 13th.

Tomac started the day off by setting the fastest qualifying time with a blistering lap time, while Bowers qualified a season best in fourth place. As Gillette Stadium filled with fans, the gate dropped on 450 Heat Race 1 and the No. 69 of Bowers got off to a great start in sixth place. Bowers pushed hard to qualify fifth. In 450SX Heat Race 2, Tomac battled his way from a ninth place start to finish second.

In the main event, Tomac raced himself up into second position on the opening lap and stalked the leader for 19 laps, applying relentless pressure. With two laps to go, Tomac blitzed the whoops to make the pass for the lead, as the duo came to the white flag. On the final lap, Tomac was on the receiving end of an aggressive pass, causing him to go down and lose the lead. Tomac remounted and finished in second place. Teammate Bowers, recovered well after a first lap crash, and raced from 20th to 13th.

“Today actually went really well,” said Tomac. “It is unfortunate that it had to end the way it did, but everything up until that point was great and I felt like I was really jelling with the bike today. There was a lot of positives to take away from today and we will move on to some outdoor testing this week and come into Salt Lake City refreshed.”

“It was another great day,” said Bowers. “I felt awesome on my KX450F and qualified fourth, which felt great. I got a great start in the heat, finished fifth and I really felt confident going into the main. Unfortunately, accidents happen and that’s racing, so I can’t be upset. We just need to keep our heads up and finish the season strong.”

After qualifying was complete, New England Patriots player and Monster Energy athlete, Rob Gronkowski and Eli Tomac had a meet and greet and jersey swap at the Monster Energy Kawasaki race truck. Gronkowski was pleasantly surprised as he walked under the tent to see a KLX® 110 with his name and No. 87 on it. The fans and media went crazy as Gronkowski and Tomac shook hands, shared a few laughs and lifted their newly signed jerseys.

“Thank you very much to Monster Energy Supercross and the Kawasaki team for allowing me to enjoy this moment. I had a blast meeting Eli Tomac and swapping jerseys with him. Thank you once again to Monster Energy Kawasaki for this opportunity.”
