It was just about this time last year that MD reported on major surgery on the left shoulder of MotoGP champ Marc Marquez. Well, following completion of the Jerez MotoGP test earlier today, Honda has confirmed that the young superstar will undergo surgery this week on his RIGHT shoulder.
Damage to the right shoulder of Marquez has been cumulative, including a dislocation suffered when he high-sided at Sepang earlier this year. At the Jerez test yesterday, Marquez had another crash that exacerbated the problem.
We will update MD readers on the condition of Marquez following his surgery.

Following tradition going back many years, most successful professional racers have injuries and keep getting patched up and screwed back together. The achievements and money must compensate for sometimes life long disability. A friend won the 250 Class at Daytona many years ago. He went full time on the AMA flat track, TT and road race circuit. He sustained a back injury that disabled him from racing before the year was out. It takes more than talent.

The accumulation of crashes are beginning to take their toll. Good thing he is young and in superb condition.this wont be enough to slow him down any.
He’s got a long road of intense PT/training etc (i.e. beyond the norm) over the winter. I wonder if it will have an effect. The problem for him is it’s in his DNA to ride back and forth across the limit – saves that would be crashes, etc. So if he backs off from that, can he change his technique in a way that keeps him dominant? Good as he is, that’s one of the hardest things for a rider to do.

didn’t he have surgery on his left shoulder at the end of 2018?
if so…seems he managed OK for 2019 😉
Right, but I meant going through it all -again-. Might start him thinking about pulling back a bit/changing tactics, if even subconsciously.
I can guarantee you it will when he hits 30 years old. Still invincible now. At some point, like Lorenzo, he will come to realize the hill is too tall to overcome everything even if you can trick the mind into thinking it’s possible.

Just think, he might have to back way off and only win 10 races in 2020. Funny thing is I think Marquez can back off a quite a bit and still win. His results are amazing given the talent in the rest of the field these days.

PT = repair work. One side effect of the PT will be that it will take time & energy from his ability to train for performance. He’ll still be fine, but it’s a setback both mentally & physically.
