Aprilia’s Andrea Iannone has reportedly failed a doping test during this year’s Malaysian MotoGP event. The FIM has provisionally suspended Iannone, who is banned from participating in motorcycle competition pending further proceedings. Iannone has the right to demand a test of a B sample of his urine.
Iannone has had a bit of a roller coaster ride since moving to the Aprilia team, but has one MotoGP win to his credit while at Ducati. Should Iannone lose his spot on the factory squad, Aprilia test rider Bradley Smith might be a logical replacement.

You kinda knew he was on some kind of substance when that video of him trying to break into his own car with a hammer circulated.
If this sticks (don’t know how he’ll escape), he’ll be out for a minimum of 2 years and probably not welcomed back by his current employer. This is likely the end of his career. I wonder who’ll ride the Ape?
Maybe he should have tried ginseng to enhance his performance instead of Viagra. It’s all natural, you know.

After another week of no new content from Motorcycle Daily, why focus on a failed drug test as the first posting in a week? There are other far more positive and interesting stories MD could be posting:
1: Rossi and Hamilton swapping F1/Moto GP machinery in a fun off-season test.
2: Rossi’s 3rd place finish Sunday in the Gulf 12 Hours.
3: Feel good story of the year: Wayne Rainey riding again at the Suzuka circuit with Lawson and Roberts.
4: Tom Cruise riding the Ninja 900 and H2 in the 2nd Top Gun Maverick preview.
5: Yoshimura out as MotoAmerica competitor.
I love MD, but am frustrated with the lack of regular new content.
Also, Tenere 700: US availability and price announced.
You should be a contributor for MD!!, I did not know any of these news and I am a fan of Rossi. Maybe I am not looking in the right places…
I know very little about copyright, but some of that stuff might not be free to use.
It continues to amaze me how many people gripe about this. Obviously you got this content elsewhere, and also obviously plenty of us are fine with Motorcycle “Daily” content. I’m glad it works well enough (apparently) for Dirck to keep the site live, personally.
I have to agree with you Tim. Also, news does get a little thin this time of year in the moto-world and I think Dirck takes a well deserved break. I like the price of admission too.
Rossi finished 3rd overall…but won his class!

even stranger choice for someone who knows they’ll face out of competition PED testing. My understanding is this kind of stuff is pretty easy to detect.

One of the great regrets of my life is when I’d moved from bike interest to car interest (I didn’t ride till much later in life) I got rid of all my saved Cycle Worlds. Which means lost to the mists of time is the “Slipstream” which just had a guy stopped on his bike on the track, and another guy standing there. Caption: “Here, smoke one of these, and you’ll ride like the wind.”
It was years before I got the joke, for that matter.
To hell with going fast, at this point, I’d rather have a full head of hair! 🙂
