We are a week away from the start of the 2020 MotoGP series in Jerez. The Marquez brothers, Marc and Alex, will be wearing special helmets from Shoei, which will be auctioned off for the benefit of the Spanish Red Cross after the race.
The purpose of the helmet design is to “pay some respect to everyone who has suffered, or is suffering, from the pandemic and also to those who have worked tirelessly during this time”, according to Marc. Bidding for the helmets is open to fans on an online auction that starts July 17 and ends July 27.
Here is a video posted to social media by the Marquez brothers:
Are the Marquez brothers really doing this? Or is it Shoei?
Who cares? It’s the thought – and action – that counts. Hope they raise a ton.
Darn it MM, you have gone and done something that actually makes me like you a little bit. 👍👍
Benefits like this should be raffles. In an auction, only the most committed bidder contributes to the cause. Instead of Marc’s helmet pulling in $10-15k, it could pull in $100k+ and many people can participate in supporting the cause.
It’s a feature, not a problem.
Great idea for great cause. Okay, I know my maximum bid of $1,000 for Marc’s helmet doesn’t stand a chance of winning, but we can still all have some fun here: let’s see who can come closest to guessing what the winning bids will be ! My entrees:
Marc’s helmet: $12,358
Alex’s helmet: $8,919
Winner of this prediction contest wins: Bragging rights ! (and perhaps one or two of you will in fact be the actual high bidders.) Good luck !
No way Marquez let’s his helmet go that cheap so he’ll sneak in a higher bid.
You are right about the raffle, I don’t even like the guy but would have thrown in to get it.
