Are we entering the Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati) era? It is beginning to seem so. After the defending champ broke the lap record at COTA to take pole position, Bagnaia stormed away from the field to take a dominant win in the MotoGP Sprint race on Saturday.
A sizable gap behind Bagnaia saw second place Alex Rins (Honda) and third place Jorge Martin (Ducati) cross the finish line. Former champ Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) had a good start and was running near the front when he crashed early in the race. He remounted and finished but remained outside the points.
Stay tuned for MD’s report on the full Sunday race later today. You can find complete results of the Sprint race here.
PECO crashed in Sunday’s race, so hold onto your hats. Looks like we have a championship.
He got off to a really rough start last year too. What’s different this year is that nobody seems to be slotting into FQ’s position last year as a 5-star points grabber. We have a championship indeed.
It’s concerning how much crashing is happening already. I think many of us were concerned this would happen with the added sprint race element. It appears to be happening.
Good on Rins for keeping up with his Honda. Looks like any battles for the championship will be for second and third, though, as Pecco is completely dialed in.
