Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) took another win in the MotoGP championship series earlier today at Laguna Seca, California. Lorenzo was handed first place when early leader Dani Pedrosa (Honda) crashed and did not finish. Casey Stoner (Ducati) finished in second place, with Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) third. Americans Nicky Hayden (Ducati), Ben Spies (Yamaha) and Colin Edwards (Yamaha) finished in fifth, sixth and seventh place, respectively.
Lorenzo has a massive championship series points lead thanks to Pedrosa’s DNF. For additional details, results and points, visit the official MotoGP site here.
I root for Jorge too, who is obviously very talented.
Though the how is unknown and unknowable, I am not totally impressed by Ben Spies. I’m more impressed by Rossi finishing forth and third such a short duration after what seemed to be serious injury.
I also don’t predict the outcome of sporting events.
Regarding sports prognosticating I’m reminded of several years ago. St. Louis Ram QB Kurt Warner won the SB, was injured the next season, then IIRC at the start of the following season he was healthy. Before the season’s first game all the sports announcers on one of the networks were asked to predict the MVP. Warner got the most votes. Phil Simms passed, saying it was silly to predict the MVP before the season started. Warner had one of the worst seasons of his career, was benched, then traded to AZ.
I “bet” (euphemistically) there is at least one legal betting venue (check Las Vegas) happy to take every last penny from anyone brave enough to put their proverbial money where their MotoGP mouth is.
First, this isn’t all about Rossi. Rossi is great, we know that. Am I happy he was injured, heck no. I don’t like to see anyone in any motorsport suffer injuries, but, they are part of that business. If Rossi wasn’t injured, it’s not easy to say that he would be ahead of Lorenzo or not. Jorge has been better and better at keeping the rubber side down and that’s his biggest key to winning. Just like James Stewart in Supercross, if he doesn’t wreck, he wins. I like Rossi alot and would love to see him win another championship before he goes 4 wheels. I understand everyones excitement about Rossi going to Ducati, but, this doesn’t guarantee anything except that there will be an italian rider on an italian bike.
Laguna…..a decent race all around with the Americans giving a good showing. Would have liked to have seen Hayden on the podium again…..and Spies, how can anyone not be totally impressed with this guy, might not be this year, but, he will win Moto GP races, with Valentino Rossi on the grid, mark my words.
I gotta hand the exciting race of the weekend to AMA Superbike and give props to Bostrom on a monumental win in his long career….went off at the corkscrew from the lead, recovered and raced to the win. It doesn’t get any better than that. That was awesome stuff!
Obviously our dear Rossi crashed and broke his leg. Something about cool tires, but he was the pilot.
That was just several weeks ago. Considering Rossi’s last two races one gets the feeling he’d be crawling up Jorge’s backside by now if not sole owner of 1st place (AGAIN) had he not crashed and/or injured his leg.
Go Valentino!
