Motocross/Supercross Injury Update: Everts, Ramsey and Albertyn

It seems like we can hardly go a day without coming across news of another injured rider. It’s sad, but true.

The latest to join the long list are World GP Motocross competitor, and multi-time champion, Stefan Everts, current AMA Outdoor 250 National Motocross champion, Greg Albertyn and last year’s West Coast AMA 125 Supercross Champion, Nathan Ramsey.

Everts was injured in France on February 20 during a “warm up” race prior to the GP season, which starts next month in Australia. Everts suffered two broken bones in his left arm, and is expected to miss only the opening GP, making it back in time for the Italian GP on April 2, 2000.

Greg Albertyn broke a femur during a practice crash prior to this weekend’s Atlanta, Georgia AMA Supercross race. Although no official pronouncements by Suzuki have been made, broken femurs typically take quite a while to heal, after which significant rehabilitation is required. Expect Albertyn to be out at least 3-1/2 to 4 months, taking him out of not only the remaining AMA Supercross races, but enough of the initial AMA Outdoor National Motocross races to remove him from championship consideration this year.

Nathan Ramsey, meanwhile, has broken his thumb, on the same hand where he suffered injuries prior to the start of the season. He will miss at least two races, and possibly more, taking him out of the running for East Coast 125 Supercross champion this year.
