When you think of a big, torque-laden sport tourer, you might think of Triumph’s Trophy 1200. Well, the big Trophy now has company.
Yamaha’s 2001 FJR1300 (pictured above) will have 143 horsepower and 92.6 pound feet of torque — while weighing in at 520 pounds. Although burley, 520 pounds is quite svelte for a sport tourer in this class (substantially lighter than Honda’s ST1100, for instance).
By the way, although complete details are not yet available from Yamaha, the bike features a water cooled, 1298cc four-valve per cylinder motor — apparently all new. Yamaha’s concept appears to be “Hayabusa thrust with comfort”. What a concept! Unfortunately, this model will not be available in the U.S. this year.
