AMA 250MX Champion Greg Albertyn |
Three time World Motocross champion Greg Albertyn ended years of injury and frustration in a convincing manner at the Steel City Motocross Track on September 5, 1999. Albertyn won both motos, and, more importantly to him and American Suzuki, won the AMA 250cc Outdoor National Motocross championship. Kevin Windham (Honda) was second overall on the day (3/2), followed by Jimmy Button (Yamaha) who went 4/3.
Although Windham had more overall victories on the year, he ends in second place in the points with Mike LaRocco (Honda) third.
Ricky Carmichael tied Mark Barnett’s career record of twenty-five 125cc Outdoor National overall victories, finishing 1/1 on the day. Stephane Roncada (Yamaha) took second overall with scores of 3/2, while David Pingree (Suzuki) was third overall (2/5 on the day). Carmichael had already clinched the championship before today’s round, and ended the season with a massive (153 points) lead in the championship over second place Brock Sellards (Honda), who just edged out Tallon Vohland (Honda).
