The race is on. Yamaha’s Jeremy McGrath versus Honda’s Ricky Carmichael at the U.S. Open Friday and Saturday nights at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Honda had obviously been waiting to confirm Carmichael until Carmichael was comfortable on his new bike (Honda has had limited time to test — not only is Carmichael new to the team, but the 2002 CR250 is brand new, as well).
Apparently, Carmichael feels ready to rock, and word has it that McGrath is more ready than he has been in several years.
$100,000.00 to the winner. Second and third place aren’t bad either. The U.S. Open should be very interesting. Expect Suzuki’s Kevin Windham and Travis Pastrana to be in the mix, as well. Kawasaki’s Ezra Lusk reportedly got hurt practicing this week (a minor rib injury) and will skip the race, but be more than ready for the opening round of the AMA Supercross series in January.
