McGrath Big Winner at Chaparral U.S. AMA Pro/Am Championship

Glen Helen Raceway in Southern California hosted the fourth annual Chaparral Supercross warm-up race today, with Chaparral’s own Jeremy McGrath (Yamaha) coming up the big winner.

Three main supercross races were held, each of which is a traditional “warm up” for the AMA Supercross Championship which kicks off in January, 2000. A 125cc main event was followed by a 250cc main event. The top riders from both the 125 and 250 race mains were paired in a “shootout” in which the 125 riders received a head start of approximately 1/2 lap before the 250 riders give chase.

In the 125cc main event, Stephane Roncada (Yamaha) looked extremely fast while pulling away for the win over second place Greg Schnell (Yamaha). The next three places went to Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammates Nathan Ramsey (third), Shae Bentley (fourth) and Tallon Vohland (fifth).

In the 250 main, Jeremy McGrath got the holeshot and proceeded to pull away convincingly. Ultimately, McGrath took the victory over his Chaparral teammate Tim Ferry. Third place went to Sebastian Tortelli (Honda).

In the shootout, McGrath crashed once and bobbled badly through the whoops (losing several places both times), yet clawed his way back for the victory over Tortelli, who finished second.
