McGrath (250) and Brandes (125) Win at Indianapolis Supercross

Jeremy McGrath (Yamaha) again got the holeshot and cruised to victory in the 250 Supercross race held in Indianapolis, Indiana this evening. McGrath was challenged early on by Honda’s Kevin Windham, who looked like he had his old speed (at least for a few laps). Windham faded badly to finish in seventh place. The 250 podium was filled out by Honda’s Mike LaRocco and Yamaha’s David Vuilliman. Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael finished fourth.

The long awaited all star event occurred in the 125 class this evening. Honda’s Michael Brandes, somewhat surprisingly, won the 125 event in Indianapolis. The race was filled with crashes that saw many of the favorites pushed back. Honda’s Brock Sellards finished second, with Suzuki’s Tyler Evans finishing third.

The big names in the 125 class, including Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana (fourth place), Kawasaki’s Nathan Ramsey (sixth place), and Yamaha’s Stephane Roncada (seventh place) and Ernesto Fonseca (eighth place) all had problems this evening. Pastrana, Roncada and Fonseca experienced crashes, while Ramsey had a horrible start. By the way, before Fonseca crashed his way back into the pack, he was second to Michael Brandes, but Brandes was able to hold him off (if not extend his lead). Brandes appears to have very good speed this year.

Brandes is apparently ineligible for East Coast points, having registered as a West Coast Supercross rider.
