Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series Statistical Report Traxxas Pala National

Pala Raceway – Pala, Calif. – September 10

  • Pala Raceway is the newest venue for American Motocross, and is the new Southern California home of the sport.
  • The Lucas Oil Motocross Championship has competed in San Diego County before, with the final race at legendary Carlsbad Raceway in 1982.
  • Only Ryan Dungey and Dean Wilson have ever took the checkered flag at Pala, following moto sweeps by each rider last season.
  • Pala carries one of the most unique distinctions of any track on the schedule as most of the series’ riders use the facility for testing and practice throughout the season thanks to its convenient location.
  • 14 points separate Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey atop the 450 Class standings. Should Dungey win both motos at Pala, Villopoto would need to finish fourth in both in order to secure the title.
  • With his Steel City win, Villopoto has finished on the podium in 12 of his 13 career starts.
  • Villopoto remains the only rider in either class to finish on the overall podium at each round this season.
  • The victory was the fourth of Villopoto’s 450 Class career. He currently sits alone in 26th on the all-time wins list.
  • Dean Wilson became just the 24th different rider to win the 250 Class title, and is only the third internationally-born rider to achieve the distinction.
  • Wilson has the most points of any rider in the series across both classes. He also boasts the best finishing average in the series. He does, however, share the most moto wins with Villopoto, at 9.
  • Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki is looking to become the first team in history to win the overall at all 12 rounds in the 250 Class. The team will also sweep the championship podium, which hasn’t been done since the inception of factory teams for all manufacturers.

450 Class Stats

  • Pala Raceway hosted its inaugural American Motocross event last season. Ryan Dungey won on a Suzuki.
  • Thanks to a moto sweep, Dungey is the only 450 Class rider to win at the facility.
