Carl Fogarty and his crew has debuted their highly anticipated WSB race bike in London. Below is a press release from Foggy Petronas Racing, followed by a link to the Foggy Petronas Racing web site where full specs are available on the bike that will make its race debut at Laguna Seca next month.
Foggy PETRONAS Racing – the unique collaboration between Malaysian petroleum giant PETRONAS and World Superbike legend Carl Fogarty – was formally launched today.
The London launch of the team also provided the first public viewing of the eagerly awaited FP1 race bike, with Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Azizan Zainul Abidin, the chairman of PETRONAS, performing the ceremony with Carl.
PETRONAS is sponsoring the Foggy PETRONAS Racing team for five years to compete in the World Superbike championship, with a planned start at the Laguna Seca round in July this year.
And riders Troy Corser, a former World Superbike champion, and British star James Haydon, will have their first taste of action on the FP1 when a rigorous testing schedule starts later this month.
Carl said: “This is one of the proudest days of my career. It is difficult to replace the feeling of winning four world championships, but this is about the closest I could come to that. I cannot wait to start racing the FP1 and start repaying the faith that PETRONAS has shown in me and the team. I think people realize that this is a very serious project and I would not be involved if I didn’t think we could win the championship within those five years. Our team has been working day and night to have this bike ready on time and it’s the most beautiful bike I have ever seen. Our job is now to make sure that it is one of the fastest and most reliable and that all of our efforts contribute to the development of the ultimate production superbike.”
