In an incredible race where McGrath (Yamaha) took the holeshot, and Vuillemin (Yamaha) took a soil sample on the first lap (remounting at the back of the pack), McGrath held on for the win with Vuillemin nearly breathing down his neck on the last lap.
The win gives McGrath an insurmountable points lead, and his seventh AMA 250 Supercross championship in eight years.
Kevin Windham (Honda) finished a close third, with Mike LaRocco (Honda) in fourth.
Next weekend in Las Vegas, David Vuillemin has a chance to win $500,000.00 by winning the third race in the Vans Triple Crown series (he has already won the first two).
Yamaha’s Ernesto Fonseca (last year’s 125 East Coast champion), won his first race of the year 2000 last night in Joliet, having been frustrated all year long with the speed of his competitors in the East Coast series. Fonseca rode an impressive race to hold off second place (and series champion) Stephane Roncada (Yamaha), with 16 year old phenom Travis Pastrana (Suzuki) in third.
