If you thought Yamaha was set to revise the R1 for 2004, you were wrong. “Revise” is just not the right term. The 2004 YZF-R1 is virtually new from the ground up. In quick summary, the engine is entirely new (although, it still features five valves per cylinder), making a claimed 180 horsepower. Lighter and more powerful, the R1 is also completely restyled (including the underseat exhaust system — made entirely of titanium).
