Suzuki Smart to Continue GSX-R750 Development

“750s don’t sell anymore. It’s all about 600s and 1000s.” Heard this lately? I have. Nevertheless, it is a smart move for Suzuki to continue pushing development of its venerable GSX-R750 forward, introducing the new 2004 model pictured above with numerous engine, chassis and styling changes.

Why? For one reason, the GSX-R750 is a heritage model for Suzuki. It is important to Suzuki’s current image, as well as its history. Secondly, and even more important for the future of this model, 750s have been considered the perfect compromise between the screaming 600s and the grunty 1000s.

With Kawasaki introducing a 636cc ZX-6R last year, the “600 class” is looking for more torque and streetability. The 600s may grow in displacement towards 750cc, as a result . . . and consumers may have a new found appreciation for the GSX-R750 as a street bike.
