An Italian industry insider indicated to MD recently that acquisition of a significant interest in MV Agusta by Proton, the Malaysian auto manufacturer, is nearly completed, and a virtual certainty.
MV’s current owner and chief executive Claudio Castiglioni has made quite a career, to date, out of his huge passion for motorcycle design and manufacture. Indeed, Mr. Castiglioni’s passion for motorcycling has frequently outstripped his attention to business details. The marriage of a financially strong Proton and the passion of Castiglioni would undoubtedly produce some beautiful offspring. Let’s hope this deal happens.
