Suddenly Sete

Now that Sete Gibernau has won two MotoGP races (out of three events this year, so far), including one wet race and one dry race, he begins to take a significant points lead in the championship. More importantly, he begins to distance himself from the other Honda riders in the paddock, including the Repsol factory riders, Nicky Hayden and Alex Barros.

This MotoGP season seems headed for several twists and turns. Nevertheless, one begins to believe that Gibernau will be one of the most consistent performers from race-to-race, and a clear threat to win the championship. He seems better suited to sort out the handling of his Honda than teammate Colin Edwards, or the Repsol Riders. He also goes fast, consistently, without crashing.

Gibernau’s MotoPG victory following the death of his teammate, Daijiro Kato, last year has proven to result more from his talent than inspiration. If Yamaha has significant improvements to Rossi’s bike in the pipeline (as it claims), count on Gibernau to keep him honest right up until the championship is awarded.
