When he won the 2002 World Championship, Thierry Van Den Bosch was clearly the fastest supermoto rider in the world. Since then, Van Den Bosch stepped away from supermoto to go road racing. Also, supermoto became an AMA sanctioned event in the United States.
Van Den Bosch is racing supermoto again in the World championships this year. Although recently returned to the sport, he thoroughly dominated the second round of that series held in Romania last weekend. It looks like he may, once again, establish himself as the dominant European supermoto racer.
Some of the Americans have become very quick at supermoto, including Jeff Ward and Doug Henry (both of whom are expected to participate in the X-Games supermoto event). Those who follow the sport in Europe, however, will know that KTM’s Van Den Bosch will be very tough to beat in the X-Games. He may just be the cream of the European crop, and, despite his hiatus, one of the most experienced supermoto racers expected to compete at the X-Games.
