Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki) put in an incredible ride at tonight’s Atlanta Supercross to take the 250cc win over top rival Chad Reed (Yamaha). Reed took the holeshot and led early in the race before being passed by Carmichael around lap 5. Just after passing Reed, Carmichael crashed and dropped back to third, but the Suzuki rider was able to quickly pass Kevin Windham to move back into second. From there, Carmichael put in some incredible lap times to slowly cut away Reed’s 5-second lead, eventually repassing Reed to take the lead 3 laps from the finish. Kevin Windham (Honda) finished a distant third, some 30 seconds behind Carmichael.
In the 125cc class, it was all Pro Circuit, with Grant Langston (Kawasaki) taking the win, followed by teammate Matt Walker (Kawasaki). Steve Boniface (Honda) came home third.
Carmichael maintains a commanding lead in the 250cc points race, 32 points ahead of Reed. Grant Langston leads the East Coast 125cc points.
