News from Daytona today included the non-too-surprising qualifying results in AMA Superbike. Mat Mladin was clearly the fastest rider on the track and earned pole position for Saturday’s superbike final at Daytona. Only Suzuki teammate Ben Spies was anywhere near Mladin and Spies was more than half a second off Mladin’s best lap. Ben Bostrom (Ducati) qualified third quickest in superbike.
The Daytona 200 will be led from pole position by Honda’s Miguel Duhamel, but all eyes were on the Buell entries to see where they would qualify for the big event this weekend. The quickest Buell in qualifying was ridden by Jeremy McWilliams, who was eighth quickest, and nearly two seconds off the quickest lap posted by Duhamel. No other Buell qualified in the top ten. Qualifying second for the 200 was Yamaha’s Jason DiSalvo, while Eric Bostrom (Yamaha) qualified third.
