Yamaha’s Jeremy McGrath took the holeshot over Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael this evening in Atlanta, but Carmichael quickly took the lead and pulled away to a comfortable, but still close, margin over McGrath. Carmichael was the winner of the 250 class, with McGrath second and Honda’s Ezra Lusk third. Mike LaRocco (Honda) charged hard to finish 2/10ths of a second behind Lusk in fourth place.
In the 125 East supercross race, Yamaha YZ250F-mounted Nathan Ramsey took the holeshot and built a huge lead (18.2 seconds at the checkered flag) over second place Brock Sellards (KTM). Ramsey’s teammate Nick Wey finished third. Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana, winner of the first round of the 125 East series, crashed twice in the first lap, and finished in fourteenth place.
The Atlanta track was extremely difficult, with very deep ruts that caused lots of crashing in both classes.
Carmichael stretches his series points lead to nine over McGrath, while Ramsey takes the 125 East points lead.
