Team Suzuki Press Office – August 26. Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing’s James Stewart has won the 2013 Motorcycle-Superstore Holeshot Championship, held in conjunction with the 2013 AMA Pro Motocross Championships.
Racing his Yoshimura Suzuki RM-Z450 to five holeshots this year, Stewart swept both starts at the season-opening Hangtown National, then went on to pick-up a Moto One holeshot at Southwick and two Moto Two holeshots – one at RedBud and one at Spring Creek. As a result, he amassed a total of nine holeshot points to capture the title and the $25,000 prize.
“I’m glad all those holeshots weren’t for nothing,” said Stewart. “I’m really stoked to win this award. Practicing with the team and at the house with my Risk Racing start gate helped a lot this year. Thanks to my Yoshimura Suzuki team for the awesome power of my Suzuki RM-Z450 and my mechanic Leeroy for getting me set-up at the gate. The award is a testament to what we’re capable of but I’d have given up that 25K to keep racing those last few motos.”
In addition to taking holeshot honours, Stewart also raced his Yoshimura Suzuki RM-Z450 to overall victory at the 2013 Spring Creek National and finished on the podium at three additional events. He was the fastest qualifier in multiple rounds and, despite missing the final Motocross race of the year, he wrapped-up the season fifth overall. Additionally, in 2013 Supercross, Stewart became one of just three racers ever to have gone nine straight seasons with a win.
Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing’s next race will be round one of the 2014 AMA/ FIM Supercross Championship on Saturday, January 4th at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.
