Rumors are swirling both online and in the European press that Triumph is in the final stages of testing a new naked middleweight, using the inline-triple powerplant from their acclaimed Daytona 675. A few sources are in fact claiming that Triumph has confirmed both the bike and its release date of June 2007.
Rumor says that the new Speed Triple (some sources are referring to it as the ‘Sport Triple’) will use the same chassis, suspension, and brakes as the Daytona 675. Of course, like most naked bikes using sportbike engines, the Speed Triple may be “re-tuned for more torque and a broader powerband”.
Given the great reviews the Daytona 675 has received and the strong sales numbers it is currently enjoying, a naked version of that bike should keep customers excited about Triumph’s sporty middleweight lineup.
