When Triumph finally gave up on the idea of competing with the Japanese manufacturers in the four-cylinder 600cc category, it hit a homerun with its 675cc three-cylinder machine, the Daytona. Combining some of the low-down grunt of a twin with a higher reving nature, like a four-cylinder machine, the Daytona 675 has found fans in journalists and consumers alike.
Now, it appears that at least one Japanese manufacturer may have a three-cylinder sporting machine in development. We might even see something this Fall, but more likely in the following model year.
