When multi-time WSB champ Carl Fogarty came out of retirement to run a WSB team sponsored by Petronas, he certainly had his work cut out for him. The bike never became truly competitive in WSB, and Fogarty moved on.
Next year Fogarty will be back in WSB running a race team. This time the team will be the official MV Agusta factory squad (a name sponsor is still being sought, apparently). The MV production bike is a fantastic machine, and competive horsepower and handling should not be major issues for Fogarty when his team contests the championship in 2008.
The two missing pieces appear to be sponsorship and riders . . . obviously very important. Something tells us Fogarty will find a way to solve both of these problems fairly soon.
