Misano (Italy), Thursday 19 June 2014 – A selection of eni FIM Superbike World Championship riders were involved today in an unusual type of race, when they jumped on pedalos (paddle boats) to challenge each other at the public beach in Misano, during the Media Event organised for the seventh round of the season.
Loris Baz (Kawasaki Racing Team), Marco Melandri (Aprilia Racing Team), Davide Giugliano (Ducati Superbike Team), Eugene Laverty (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki), Leon Haslam (Pata Honda World Superbike), Niccolò Canepa (Althea Racing Team Ducati – EVO), Sylvain Barrier (BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team – EVO), Claudio Corti (MV Agusta Reparto Corse), Alessandro Andreozzi (Team Pedercini Kawasaki – EVO), Aaron Yates (Team Hero EBR) and Ayrton Badovini (Team Bimota Alstare – EVO) were joined by WSS Italian riders Lorenzo Zanetti (Pata Honda World Supersport), Raffaele De Rosa (CIA Insurance Honda) and Roberto Tamburini (San Carlo Puccetti Racing) for a funny competition under the sunny skies on the Adriatic coast.
The riders were paired up for a sprint race to determine the teams making it to the final. The top 3 pairings were Corti/De Rosa, Zanetti/Andreozzi and Canepa/Barrier, who gave their very best to prevail over their opponents. In the final race there was a collision off the start leaving Corti and De Rosa to come home victorious in front of an enthusiast crowd of fans, motorcycle enthusiasts and curious visitors, who packed the water side.
As always during the WSBK Media Events, all riders found time to interact with the public attending the event, posing for pictures and signing autographs.
The on track action for the seventh round will start tomorrow with the first free practice sessions for all classes.
