If there is any rhyme or reason to what is happening in MotoGP these days, it relates to the background of the fastest riders. The guys who tore it up on 250cc GP bikes are setting the pace, including Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Rossi and Stoner.
The startling manner in which Lorenzo has mastered his MotoGP machine reinforces the argument that the riders with two-stroke GP bikes in their blood have an advantage. The guys with four-stroke backgrounds, which would include former champ Nicky Hayden, Collin Edwards and James Toseland, are certainly fast on occasion, but the advent of the 800cc limit really seems to have played to the strengths of the former 250cc champions and contenders (Stoner). We could argue about the reasons for this, but if you think you have it figured out, send us an email with your thoughts.
