Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series Statistical Report

La Crescent Wine & Spirit Spring Creek National

Spring Creek MX Park – Millville, Minn. – July 19

  • Spring Creek has hosted a Lucas Oil Pro Motocross National since 1983. It boasts several of the most iconic obstacles in the sport, including the sand whoops and the “Holy Schmit” jump named for late local legend Donny Schmit. The track also has the longest start straight on the schedule.
  • “Mount Martin” is Spring Creek’s newest obstacle, measuring at 350 feet of total elevation.
  • The city of Millville has a population of about 200. On Saturday, that population will grow by at least fifty times when thousands of die-hard motocross fans pour into the town.
  • Hometown hero Ryan Dungey has won a total of five times at Spring Creek-twice in the 250 Class and three times in the 450 Class.
  • Spring Creek is in the back yard of brothers Alex Martin and Jeremy Martin, as their parents-John and Greta-own the facility.
  • Millville’s very own Jeremy Martin is currently the 250 Class points leader and a heavy favorite to win at his home track.
  • Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen is the only rider to finish on the podium in every moto at each of the first seven rounds.
  • GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac has finished on the overall podium at each of his first three starts of his 450 Class career.

450 Class Stats

  • The first race held at Spring Creek was August 28, 1983. Bob Hannah won on a Honda.
  • This will be the twenty-fourth time the gate will drop for a 450 Class race at Spring Creek.
  • Only eleven riders have stood atop the 450 Class podium at Spring Creek in twenty-three years.
  • Ricky Carmichael, Jeff Emig, Ron Lechien, James Stewart, and Ryan Dungey have won at Spring Creek in both classes. Trey Canard and Eli Tomac are looking to join them.
  • Ricky Carmichael boasted an undefeated record at Spring Creek MX Park, winning every race (eight) and every moto (sixteen) from 2000-2007.
  • Ryan Dungey has won three of his last four starts at Spring Creek.
  • Suzuki has won seven of the last nine races at Spring Creek. James Stewart captured the brand’s eighth total victory in 2013, surpassing Kawasaki for the most all-time at the track.
  • Yamaha hasn’t won an overall at Spring Creek since 1994, when John Dowd posted the only overall win for the brand.
  • Bob Hannah book-ended his career at Spring Creek, winning his first-ever race in the 250 Class on April 4, 1976, and winning his final race in the 450 Class on August 11, 1985.
  • A total of four riders have posted their final career victories at Spring Creek. However, no rider has ever won his first career 450 Class race at the facility.
  • Spring Creek hosted the 500cc National from 1985-1993. Honda won all but one event.
  • Since 1995, the Spring Creek 450 Class winner has either gone on to win the class championship or already had one.

250 Class Stats

  • The first 250 Class race was held at Spring Creek on August 28, 1983. Ron Lechien won on a Yamaha.
  • This will be the thirty-second time the gate will drop at Spring Creek for the 250 Class.
  • Late local legend Donny Schmit gave Suzuki its first win at Spring Creek in 1987, and went back-to-back with another win in 1988. Current local star Ryan Dungey achieved the same feat in 2008 and 2009 before moving on to the 450 Class, where he duplicated those efforts, prior to switching to KTM in 2012.
  • Yamaha has not won at Spring Creek in the 250 Class since Jeff Emig’s 1993 victory. The Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha duo of Jeremy Martin and Cooper Webb, along with Valli Motorsports Yamaha’s Christophe Pourcel, will look to put Yamaha back on top in 2014.
  • Spring Creek was the site of the younger Martin’s breakout ride as a rookie in 2013, when he nearly took the win in the opening moto.
