Windham (250) and Carmichael (125) Taste Victory at Steel City; Brown Wins 125 Championship After Langston DNFs

We will begin with the 125 class this week because that is where all the drama was. Mike Brown (Kawasaki) won the 125 Outdoor National championship today when Grant Langston (KTM) DNF’d the second moto with three laps remaining. Langston appeared to be on his way to a sure championship when his rear wheel collapsed (he had been riding with a flat tire for some time, putting huge pressure on the wheel). Langston pulled to the side of the track and cried. This was not the end of the drama, however, as Mike Brown, now in second place in the last moto of the year, purposely slowed to finish third in the moto so that Kawasaki-mounted Ricky Carmichael could win the overall on the day and pass Mark Barnett on the all-time 125 Outdoor National wins list.

The 250 class was rather boring by comparison, with Suzuki’s Kevin Windham dominating both motos over Yamaha’s Tim Ferry (3/2) and Honda’s Mike LaRocco (2/3).
