Virginia International Raceway hosted the final round of the AMA roadrace series today. In the Superbike class, Suzuki’s Mat Mladin cruised home in 12th place, and took his third straight Superbike title. The 150 kilometer race (featuring a mandatory pit stop for each bike) was won by Honda’s Nicky Hayden — his fourth straight Superbike victory. Although Hayden had a relatively comfortable margin at the checkered flag, he had a close battle with Yamaha’s Anthony Gobert through much of the race. Gobert finished second.
Gobert won the 600 Supersport final at VIR aboard his Yamaha R6, but Kawasaki’s Eric Bostrom rode conservatively to seventh place and his first AMA 600 Supersport championship.
