Too bad he rides a Honda.

Here is the message I’m getting from this front-page story: Do NOT read anything at Motorcycledaily.com unless you’ve viewed your recording of the previous weekend’s race. It is a major spoiler.

Message received, and it’ll certainly cut down on my readership. And I gotta say … mighty poor editorial judgment.

Yea, who would imagine that a Motorcycle site would report the results of a major world wide motorcycle race? The nerve.

    • Jeremy in TX says:

I can only hope this was meant in jest. Is there some unwritten rule about reporting on the results of major sporting events no sooner than three days after the fact?

    • VLJ says:

Gary, you can’t seriously be getting your panties in a wad over a motorcycle enthusiast website reporting race results of the most popular motorcycle racing series on the planet. What do you expect them to do? NOT report them, until Gary is all caught up on his DVR viewing?

    • Gary says:

I’m in no position to tell MD what to do. I don’t call the shots.

But I don’t think I’m the only one who records MotoGP events and watches ’em later. I don’t stay up all night Saturday to watch them live.

It would be just as easy to run an action shot on the front page without revealing the winner, with a spoiler alert. That’s what lots of other pubs do.

Earth to Gary: Motorcycle news blog + MotoGP Race results.

      Do the math Gary.

      You’re kidding, right?

You know what? If I turn on the news right now, I bet you $1000 they are talking about election results. I’m a dog gone genius!

  3. Pete says:

you got it all wrong, they all need to go number 1 and number 2, there’s a port o potty just out of view

  4. Jason says:

When you put 1 and 2 side by side that is 12. The number of wins for the season.

  5. TimC says:

AND everything is out of order too, so this really doesn’t make sense. Excellent.

  6. TimC says:

Huh, that was supposed to be a reply to a specific commment, which now seems to be gone. Weird.

re: “MM is the real deal”

MM’s a Catalan. same as Dan and same as Criville before them. Majorcan Jay…? not so much.

in any other society, this might not be an issue. however, in “classist” Spain (second only to India)…?

    yeah, it’s a problem.

  8. Norm G. says:

wait, that pic is totally confusing. is that a 3…? a 12…? is that parc ferme Sepang…? or an Argentinian recycle…? dunno. what I do know is they’re all out of fingers (and ideas).

The kid is tough, and he’s good. He deserves all the accolades he is receiving. Great job by Valentino. He may actually finish the season runner up which is quite the accomplishment considering what his state of mind must have been the last year on the Ducati. Can only imagine what his record would reflect had he stayed with Yamaha. Disappointed for Dani of course, been a tough year on him. Not sure what to say about Lorenzo. Considering his comments it’s like he really didn’t take this season seriously. Sorry to see there is only 1 more race. For us fans the season seems to go by so quickly.

    • MGNorge says:

Well put. It does go by very fast doesn’t it? When this season first started I felt like I was just starting to settle in, then we’re in the thick of it and then it’s almost gone by. I’m “getting” old! 🙂

    • Norm G. says:

re: “For us fans the season seems to go by so quickly.”

      hear hear.

re: “Sorry to see there is only 1 more race.”

ps: set your DVR’s for STUN. Velocity’s just started showing the BSB season. I’m storing them up for when Europe’s done and dusted. however I did sneak.

omg Round 2 Race 2 Oulton, josh brookes…! best display of riding since Spies at Monza ’09…? V5 mounted VR46 in the wet Suzuka ’02…? CEII imola ’02…? definitely top 5 given the MX nature of the track. so good, I almost wish I hadn’t watched it. Marcus looks like he’s out for test and tune.

MM is pretty impressive for sure, as is his records. FWIW, might be more useful to quote percentage of possible wins in a season. OTTOMH, Mick’s 12 were out of 14 races, MM’s this year is 12/17 so far. No doubt Ago and some others have decent percentages way back when too, and from fewer races in a season.

As others have noted, not easy to compare generations.

    • mickey says:

Some people say Ago didn’t have much competition(but he really did). What was really astonishing is he ran two races a day 350 and 500 for years, often winning both on the same day and often winning both championships for years. Winning for both MV and Yamaha. Winning the Daytona 200 on first ride with Yamaha beating Kenny Roberts. That to me is amazing plus what? winning 10 Isle of Manns? Dismiss him if you want..I don’t. Heck of a Motorcycle Racer.

    • ze says:

I remember 97 Doohan winning so easy. I even desisted to follow. And he had almost none competition, HRC team was another series inside the series. Some years ago J. Burgess said the team had special tyres as well. So i give much more credit to Marc, he’s very young, has hard competition and same tyres. It was so easy for doohan after the great american riders were gone and as always he had the best bike and team. I’m not american, no nationalism here..

  11. VLJ says:

He still looks like Jack Nicholson as The Joker.
