Dungey Continues to Dominate in the Monster Energy Supercross Championship

AURORA, Ill. (March 10, 2015) -Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, returns to Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium this Saturday night with Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey holding down a commanding 40-point lead over Team Honda HRC’s Trey Canard. Dungey’s teammate Marvin Musquin is on a two-race win streak in the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship.

Some key insights to watch heading into this Saturday night’s race include:

  • Dungey can win three consecutive races for the first-time in his career
  • Tomac can earn his third consecutive podium finish for the first-time in his career
  • Can Blake Baggett back up his career-best third place finish from last weekend?
  • Chad Reed is now tied with Jason Anderson for fifth place, can he continue to ascend in the season point standings?
  • Can Musquin win his third consecutive 250SX Class race?
  • Martin Davalos is still winless in 2015, can he score his first win this weekend?
  • Musquin, Jeremy Martin and Justin Bogle have been on the podium for the past three races, can they follow suite this weekend?

With his win last weekend in Daytona, Dungey became the first rider this season to win two consecutive races. The 2010 450SX Class Champion took over the lead in Daytona from fellow KTM rider Andrew Short on Lap 8 and rode to his fourth win of the year. Dungey’s win marked his first ever in Daytona and the 18thof his career.

“It feels good to get my first-ever Daytona win,” stated Dungey. “The bigger picture is obviously focusing on the championship, but to get the win feels even better. We had to do a lot changes to the bike prior to this race since it is different than normal Supercross racing and all of the changes were for the good. My bike worked great and I am happy to take this win.”

GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac, who sits third in points, finished second in Daytona.

“There was a little light switch in the Main Event,” Tomac said. “Not on the start itself, but during the moto I was riding like I should be and made my way into second.

“It was a little bit of a bummer to be behind there at the start. I wish I could’ve given the front guys a little more of a run, but second place is better for me from my past experiences at Daytona. It was good to get up on the podium.”

Canard, who has two race wins this year, finished sixth in Daytona.

“I was feeling strong heading into the Main Event, but I got caught up with Broc [Tickle] right off the start, and my front wheel was stuck on his foot peg in the first turn,” said Canard following the race in Daytona.

Musquin led all 15 laps in the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Main Event in Daytona and extended his points lead to 12 over Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Martin.

“When I was younger, winning Daytona in the US was a dream of mine,” stated Musquin. “To win today for the second time in my career makes me so happy. This track was so much fun and I’m having a good time battling for this championship. My fitness is good and I’m not tired after putting in a hard 15 laps and that feels good.”

GEICO Honda’s Bogle finished second in Daytona and Martin finished third.

During last year’s 450SX Class Main Event in Indianapolis, Dungey captured his first win of the season. In the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo captured his second career victory.
