Chasing the Dream is an unscripted, behind-the-scenes, all-access look at the key riders and players that make up the world’s most intense and physically demanding motorcycle championship. The series will take viewers beyond the race track and give viewers a look into everything that goes on during a typical race day of Monster Energy Supercross’ most high profile athletes. With so many storylines surrounding the 2016 season, Chasing the Dream dives into the drama and intrigue surrounding each rider’s title hopes.
The season preview episode, which debuts this Sunday on December 20th, will profile the most prominent offseason topics heading into the opening race from Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, on January 9. With a second 450SX Class title under his belt, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey will look to defend a championship for the first time in his career. Since joining forces with star trainer Aldon Baker prior to the 2015 season, Dungey has arguably reached his maximum potential as a rider and will be a favorite to repeat as champion this season.
After pacing Dungey for most of the 2015 season and finishing runner-up in the championship, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac is with a new team and on a new bike for 2016, stepping into the spot once occupied by retired four-time champion Ryan Villopoto. Tomac continues to progress since moving into the 450SX Class and is considered to be one of Dungey’s primary threats entering his third season of premier class competition.
After winning the Monster Energy Cup in October, similar attention has been given to RCH Soaring Eagle/Jimmy John’s/Suzuki Factory Racing’s Ken Roczen. The reigning back-to-back winner of the Anaheim opener has a penchant for starting strong and after injuries derailed his title hopes a year ago, he’s back with renewed confidence and experience entering his second year with the Ricky Carmichael and Carey Hart-owned team and will look to become the first German-born champion in Monster Energy Supercross history.
In addition to these three title favorites, Chasing the Dream will also go in depth into the anticipated return of Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart, the move of veteran Davi Millsaps to his third team in as many seasons and the graduation of high profile rookies Marvin Musquin and Justin Bogle into the sport’s elite and most competitive division.
“As the sport of Monster Energy Supercross continues to grow, reaching larger audiences both at the races and on television, it is imperative that fans of the sport have the opportunity to learn more about its athletes,” said Dave Prater, senior director of supercross, Feld Motor Sports. “These competitors are truly special and the sacrifices they make stand alone in the sporting world. The requirements of winning a Monster Energy Supercross title essentially consumes these riders’ every move. It has become a necessity in today’s era of unprecedented competition and Chasing the Dream allows us to provide an unparalleled look into their personal lives as well as what goes on behind the scenes on race day.”
