American Motorcyclist Association sets record for outreach in 2015

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association reached more people in 2015 than any previous year, using social media, direct contact with motorcycling advocates, press releases, newsletters and magazines.
  • Facebook “likes” were up 81 percent over 2014
  • Twitter followers increased 132 percent
  • The number of AMA followers on Instagram climbed from 3,400 to 41,200 (largely due to the addition of an AMA Supercross account)

AMA Action Alerts also prompted more than 40,000 individuals to take direct action on behalf of motorcyclists’ rights in 2015, including:

  • Approximately 3.7 million messages
  • Nearly 79,000 letters
  • 40,501 petition signatures
  • More than 320,000 subscribers to AMA Action Alerts and notices

“These numbers reflect the AMA’s phenomenal success at getting its message out to members, to politicians, to the media and to the nonmember motorcycling community during the year,” said Rob Dingman, AMA president and CEO. “At the same time, as we enter 2016, we need to view this as a challenge to find new ways to communicate with the millions of motorcyclists across the country and to encourage them to become involved in our efforts to promote the motorcycle lifestyle and protect the future of motorcycling.”

In addition to its social media pages, the AMA issues four electronic newsletters — AMA Extra, AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Insider, AMA ATV E-News and AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Updates — publishes two editions — street and dirt/competition — of its monthly member magazine, American Motorcyclist, and maintains LinkedIn, Google+ and Pinterest accounts.

More than 180 media releases were issued and posted to the AMA website (www.americanmotorcyclist.com) during 2015. And the AMA also hosts two YouTube channels (www.youtube.com/user/AmericanMotorcyclist and www.youtube.com/user/motorcyclemuseum).

The AMA also uses these hashtags to highlight posts of interest:

  • #WhereRidersBelong
  • #AMASX
  • #AMAVMD
  • #AMArights
  • #AMAracing
  • #AMAriding
  • #AMAHoF

“We encourage everyone who rides or who is just interested in motorcycles to join the AMA, to follow the AMA on social media, to sign up for our newsletters and action alerts and to become more involved in motorcycling activities,” Dingman said. “There is strength in numbers and in unity. Join us in making 2016 a productive and enjoyable year for all of us in the motorcycling community.”
