The opening round of the 2016 MotoGP series tomorrow in Qatar will find Yamaha’s defending champ Jorge Lorenzo on pole position. Completing the front row will be Honda’s Marc Marquez and Suzuki’s Maverick Viñales.
Beginning a season that promises to be populated with more front runners, nine-time champ Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) posted a lap that put him in the middle of the second row tomorrow. This was on the heels of an announcement from Yamaha that Rossi has signed a two-year contract extension with the factory. Rossi will be between two factory Ducatis tomorrow, as Andrea Iannone qualifed fourth, while Andrea Dovizioso qualified sixth. You can find additional Q2 qualifying results by following this link.
call me stupid, but i think the ducati riders are and will be pushing themselves even more because the simple PRESENCE of casey stoner is breathing down their necks. i dont mean casey is breathing down their necks. i mean the fact he’s there, at ducati –and could possibly race– has that effect. i think somewhere in the back of their minds –maybe even on their frontal lobe– every single instant they might otherwise back off the throttle, every single instant they might otherwise brake a hair sooner, every single instant they might be thinking of their girl or their mom or whatever and lose a split second in practice in the race or even when they sleep, something flashes in their neurons: “if im not 100% 24/7 it won’t be me pulling this throttle, it’ll be casey.”
You don’t see the Andreas slacking much. They are two of the more aggressive up and coming riders
I think that is a good point and probably correct. The fact that Lorenzo hasn’t renewed a contract and the rumors going around regarding his consideration of Ducati probably has the Andres reaching deep down for that little extra, too.
At this level of racing though, I think every rider out there has that kind of pressure. There is always someone else that could take their ride.
Dovi was already been passed over for Pedrosa in the past.
It may depend on where they believe their bike really is in development. For all we know, they may know or believe that The Andreas are already getting the best the bike has to offer and paying the “big check” to JL wouldn’t have any effect on their results.

The HD video coverage at MotoGP may be the best I have ever seen for any similar type of service. Even just for pressers they had three HD cameras, all from various different angles. If you’re on the fence, buy it, and I predict it will exceed all expectations.
It is one of the most exciting sports in the world, and HD TV coverage is infinitely more exciting than NFL (which I enjoy) or any other sport.
I’m excited to see the race. The qualifying times are tightly packed, but the Yamaha bikes clearly look more composed. It seems like the Ducati and especially the Honda riders are still working pretty hard to clock those kinds of times.
Marquez has the fastest pace, and was the fastest in warmups. He’ll win it or bin it.
Does Suzuki get their first podium since 2008?

18 races with 3 different races at each event = 54 races for $160. That’s $2.96 per race. You’re right, “WOW”!, that’s one hellva deal, isn’t it? And don’t forget you can go back in history and watch races in past years, so it gets even better. But on the other hand, if you’re that cheap, perhaps you’re not really a fan and should be watching NASCAR under the caution flag. That’ll get you a “Wow”.
I ended up purchasing the single-screen version for $113. Just watched a bunch of videos, including FP4 and qualifying.

Good point. And even if you only watch the premier races, practice, qualifying, etc. Its still cheaper than a movie..
And since Honda were lagging in the Off season, I imagine its gonna be JLorenzo in a run away snoozer. If Ducati or Suzuki start winning races this year,perhaps I’ll get excited.

Can’t wait! Been a long winter. Sprung for the Basic Sports package on direct TV to get ch 620 for $13 month so at 1 pm tomorrow I will not be out riding, but rather have my tush parked on the couch watching the telly. Anyone know why BEin sports has 2 hours blocked out for this?
They did a huge pre-race show before the WSBK opener, so maybe they’re doing a similar deal. I hope they’re showing Moto2 and Moto3 at some point, but I don’t see them scheduled…

If I spring for the MotoGP.com season pass, do I have to watch a 5:00 a.m. PST race live—as in, right when it’s being streamed live—or can I get up a few hours later and watch a recording of it stored on their site?

The streaming package I got was only 99 euros if I remember correctly. So well under $160. (You don’t need to pay extra for the multicam option our whatever they call it IMO. I did that the first year, and while pretty cool I rarely used it.)
You can watch the race art anytime. You can also watch all past races for many years back.
Jeremy do you have to watch it on the computer?
Mickey, you just need an internet connection and a browser. So if you have a relatively modern TV or any attached peripheral device (bluray player, etc.) with such, then you can watch it on your TV. There are also ways to broadcast from your computer to a TV if you need to go that route (such as a $35 Chromecast.)
But all those devices have to work properly, work with each other, and be updated with the latest software. In this day of planned obsolescence, that’s not so simple!
We had the MotoGP package for a couple of years. We have a PC, a wireless router, Apple TV, two iPad 2’s, my iPhone 4S, and my wife’s iPhone 6.
With all of that equipment, we found last year that the ONLY way to watch MotoGP on our TV screen was to use my wife’s phone and route it through the AppleTV.
Apparently my phone and our iPads will no longer work with the MotoGP site unless we update to the latest iOS, which has been proven to completely f*** up your equipment.
So I either buy a new phone – $$$ – or a new iPad – $$$ – or a different TV-streaming device that I can’t even be certain is any better than the AppleTV… OR, be at the mercy of my wife’s phone being available when we want to watch the races. I’m not about to have the four of us crowd into my office to watch it on my PC, either.
So compared to simply paying for the beIN Sport option and recording the races on my DVR, all of that stuff is a major pain. So I’ll stick with the good ol’ satellite TV.
But for all you millenials who thrive on having the latest devices at all times, the MotoGP streaming package is an awesome deal!
I can’t speak to Apple equipment. All my devices (save for my PCs) and A/V equipment are Android powered, and I haven’t had any issues.
If in doubt, Chromecast is easiest and most reliable way to broadcast from your computer or phone to a TV if you have an older set. That is what I use for my MotoGP viewing parties. I plumb it from my phone to a projector onto a 12 ft outdoor screen. Sweet.

Btw if you broadcast the race tomorrow on an outdoor screen here, your guests would have to bundle up. At 1pm should be 36 degrees.

Non multi screen was about$120 and you get all the practice , qualifying, racing and can watch it whenever. My laptop with Windows 10 sends it to my TV with Chrmecast or HDMI cable. Can watch it on my Microsoft phone with the Edge browser.
$112.62 U.S. for single screen version. Buy that and the WSBK package and you’ll never have to talk to your wife/sweetie, kids, friends, family again…
