Santa Clara is located in Silicon Valley, at the southern tip of California’s Bay Area. Silicon Valley refers to its position as the technological epicenter of the country, home to companies like Apple and Google.
Monster Energy Supercross first visited Silicon Valley in 1990 at San Jose’s Spartan Stadium, located about 11 miles from its current home at Levi’s Stadium. Six races were hosted in San Jose from ’90-’95.
This will be the second race at Levi’s Stadium, which hosted this year’s Super Bowl and his home to the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers. It is considered to be the most environmentally friendly stadium in the country, the first to receive LEED Gold certification.
Monster Energy Supercross has raced in four different stadiums in the Bay Area – Oakland’s O.co Coliseum, San Francisco’s AT&T Park, San Jose’s Spartan Stadium, and Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium. The region has hosted two races in each of the past two seasons.
450SX Class Stats:
2015 Podium: Ryan Dungey, Eli Tomac, Weston Peick
Jeff Stanton won the first race in Silicon Valley, at San Jose’s Spartan Stadium, in 1990 on a Honda. Ryan Dungey rode to victory on a KTM at the first race in Levi’s Stadium last season.
There have been six different winners in the seven races held in San Jose and Santa Clara.
Jeremy McGrath is the only multiple race winner in Silicon Valley. Dungey will look to join him and become the first back-to-back winner.
McGrath was the only rider to win in both classes, doing so in San Jose in the 250SX Class in 1992 and then the following year in the 450SX Class.
The winner in Silicon Valley has gone on to win the championship four times in seven seasons. Jeff Stanton first did it in 1990, Jeremy McGrath followed in 1993 and 1995, and Dungey became the most recent last season.
Doug Dubach is the only rider to earn his first career 450SX Class victory in either San Jose or Santa Clara, doing so in San Jose in 1991. It was his only Main Event win.

250SX Class Stats:

San Jose’s Spartan Stadium hosted 250SX Class races from ’90-’95 and moved to Levi’s Stadium for the first time last season.
Buddy Antunez won the first 250SX Class race in San Jose in 1990 on a Suzuki. Yamaha rider Cooper Webb took the first win in Santa Clara last season.
Webb will look to become the first 250SX Class rider to claim multiple victories in Silicon Valley. Six different riders won in six seasons in San Jose.
The winner of the 250SX Class race in Silicon Valley has gone on to win the championship just twice in seven seasons. Jeremy McGrath did it in 1992 and Webb did it last season.
Just two riders have earned their first 250SX Class win in either San Jose or Santa Clara. Pedro Gonzalez (1994) and David Pingree (1995) both did so in San Jose. It was Gonzales’ lone victory.
