Two-time WSB World champ Troy Corser participated in some vintage racing at the Goodwood Revival earlier this month, and we found some great video of him extracting every millimeter of performance from a pre-WW2 BMW boxer on the Goodwood track. In the right circumstances, a good rider on a slow bike is faster than a mediocre rider on a fast bike. Watching Troy Corser in this video, we don’t doubt he could dominate a track-day full of modern superbikes riden by average riders. Have a look.

the man stays loose and relaxed in times of peril while he squeezes every bit friction from the tires, and every bit of stiffness from a noodle frame. amazing.
And if Corser were on a modern standard like the Versys he would beat his vintage BMW times, for sure.

THIS should be shown to all new/aspiring riders so that when they say later on that they “need” the Liter-bike they will know, deep down: It’s the singer, not the song.
What a great video! I kept thinking, that’s the only 80 year old bike that could take that kind of riding and survive! Finally it gave up, kinda, still made the pits. Those Brit bikes would’ve shaken themselves to bits. What a HOSS of a rider. I bet he never loses the touch.
Oh I dunno – here in classic racing you regularly see em flogged ay high pace. They do well, if well prepared. Many years ago I saw a KTT Velo showing up a lot of newer bikes.
Infinitely more interesting than the indistinguishable racers of today. Google Honda 160 racing for more fun. Nascar has the same canned car problem, seeing classics from 1971 or earlier when stock cars were really stock cars would be so much more interesting.
I believe that is a 500 cc boxer. Sure sounds nice and goes even better.

This must be some sort of CG video trickery as everyone knows you have to have at least 165hp, USD forks and a 190 rear tire just to go fast on the street these days or be ashamed of your pitiful bike. To go as fast as Corser at Goodwood just can’t be real. Seriously, you can tell he was loving every moment of that ride until the right cylinder went.

There were a couple of those bikes at the Calssic TT event on the Isle of Man last month. They were being really well ridden and hassling race bikes 50 years younger. Some people would be (rightly) cautious about flogging classic race bikes, but these really caught the eye.
Looking at the brakes and forks, a high corner speed might simply be inevitable!

Denial … fueling new bike sales for decades!
Denial about what? How is a track day rider supposed to get Corser’s skill and speed? Troy Corser is in the top 0,0something of all riders of all times.
There is no shame if a track day rider is slower than Corser, he should be, and no shame in aspiring for a better bike. And I’m pretty sure Corser the racer wouldn’t turn down a faster bike even if there were racers that were even faster than him.
“Faster bike”. It’s a myth. Getting a more powerful bike won’t make a rider any faster unles he’s, like Corser, already better than the bike. I’ve never met The Fastest Rider on any bike. There’s always someone faster so that means you need to keep practicing to get better on the bike you have before trading “up” will be of ANY benefit.
Of course it will make. If you can twist the throttle to the stop then a more powerful bike will get you to the end of the straight faster. This holds true no matter what your entry speed or breaking point is relative to other riders.
Better suspension (incl. set-up), tires, brakes etc. will make any bike and rider faster and safer.
By your logic only MotoGP “aliens” should be riding anything other than a moped, as they would always find a way to get more out of a bike then lesser riders.

The Saturday race was pretty special. Seeing those ancient machines on the edge on a wet track was amazing.

If you look closely at the pic at the top it does appear like there’s a white rub button (plastic?) strategically placed on the valve cover.
I wonder if there is any work on the suspension.
Admirable speed on such a package (under the assumption that original suspension on those skinny tires are being used).

It’s a hardtail frame. The suspension amounts to a coil sprung seat. Not sure what “work” could’ve been done.
Monoshock seat?
