With its riders breathing the air of their homeland, Team Belgium dominated qualifying for tomorrow’s Motocross des Nations final, with Team USA placing third.
With the three-member teams split into three qualification groups, Belgium took quickest lap in each of the three groups today, with team members Stefan Everts, Joel Smets and Steve Ramon.
Team USA rode well, but not up to the standards set by the Belgian Nationals. Ricky Carmichael, Tim Ferry and Ryan Hughes each placed in the top five quickest in their respective qualification groups, with Carmichael second quickest in Everts’ group.
Following two semi-finals tomorrow morning, the final motos will determine the Motocross des Nations champion. With the way Belgium rode today, Team USA may need a bit of luck to take home the crown this year.
