Yamaha’s Chad Reed was the big winner in Vegas this weekend, taking home the $100,000 first place check with a second place finish on the opening night of the two-day event, and a first place finish this evening. Finishing second overall (1/3) was Reed’s teammate David Vuillemin. Ricky Carmichael (Honda) finished third overall (3/2).
Reed, the winner of the final six events of the AMA Supercross series last year (finishing just 7 points down on Carmichael’s championship run) was not a surprise winner. The surprise may have been David Vuillemin, who seemed to step up to the level he rode at a couple of years ago, before an injury (just prior to the Daytona supercross that year) sidelined him for a while, and seemed to take away his rhythm even last season. Vuillemin appears ready to mix it up with Carmichael and Reed, the two riders who totally dominated last year’s supercross series.
