Qualifying for tomorrow’s COTA MotoGP race saw Marc Marquez (Honda) take pole position over Yamaha’s Maverick Viñales by a narrow margin. Nearly a full second back in third was Valentino Rossi (Yamaha). Ducati’s Jorge Lorenzo made it to Q2 for the first time this year and will line up on the outside of the second row with the sixth quickest time.
Marquez has won every COTA MotoGP race from pole position since the inaugural event 5 years ago, but must stop the man who has won the opening two rounds this year, Viñales. Watch for an MD race report tomorrow.
Here are the QualifyingResults
Am I the only one who finds it interesting that the guy who got the pole position had the forth lowest top speed? You have to got down 14 positions to find a lower top speed, the other two being the last two.
Zen track.
Interesting, sure, but it’s one data point from one point on the track. Reduced to that, the only data point that matters is elapsed time at the line.
I’ll be interested to see if Honda has their gremlins worked out at the next tracks. They’ve been struggling badly and COTA is clearly a “Honda Track”.
set your fazers for stun… err… MARAUD…!!!
At least Rossi won’t be starting two rows back like he usually is.
This could be a very exciting race.
Something tells me MM won’t be running away with it this time.
Not saying he won’t win but I believe he will be challenged today.
I like MM. In fact I like HL better. Because of the style.
HL…?
Horhe Lorenzo
Lorenzo has a style?
More so riding a bike thatn VR. Or does the big foam yellow glove obstruct your view?
It will be sunny but basically the same temps as yesterday. It should be a great race though. Will be very interesting to see what happens early since all the turn 2 lowsides yesterday. Cold tires?
Looks to be a fabulous race. DVR is set, beer is cold and chips and salsa ready.
Weather should be vastly different today. Yesterday was chilly and windy. All the vendors sold out of sweatshirts.
Today will be sunny and nice.
Just watched the weather here in the Austin area. Windy day but the sun is to come out and hit 74. Bring your windbreaker with you. I’m heading out now. See you at the races…
Race pace! Should be a cracker of a contest.
Vale is cool. I did not watch Qualifying, but remembering his battles with Sete Gibernau,
he is ok with his age.
Man, that was an exciting qualifying. I hope the race goes like that.
Yes it was! Tire management got caught with their pants down in the morning!!
Did you see Baz’s “save” during qualifying. Oh man that was a cool one.
That was almost Mamola-like…
I was at the track today and Marquez was just so smooth. He really looks like he owns this track.
That qualifying order looks like a “normalizing” of MotoGP has taken place.
Pre race jitters have I… In a good way! Can’t wait for tomorrow.
