Pouring rain met the riders in Japan earlier today as practice got underway for the Motegi GP event on Sunday. After two free practice sessions for MotoGP, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) was quickest, with championship points leader Marc Marquez (Honda) close behind.
Ducati’s Jorge Lorenzo was taken out by the tumbling motorcycle of Cal Crutchlow (Honda) in FP1, but escaped unhurt and posted the fourth quickest time on the day.
You can find combined practice resultsĀ here. Stay tuned for further race coverage on MD.

look closely, he’s wearing one.
Does their crotch get wet? Never mind wet. Do they wear a cup under those leathers? For 300km/h get offs?! Seriously?
When these guys race in the wet, do they wear “rain leathers” or different gloves? A Gore Tex-ish liner? Do they get cold and/or wear heated gear? Does water ever get to the crotch? Last time I rode in the rain it took a little more than an hour to sneak in there. Not enjoyable.
In the past they have worn a see thru rain jacket and I imagine rain proof gloves. Don’t know if their boots are waterproof.
