Miguel Duhamel (Honda) dominated today’s Daytona 200, taking the checkered flag on Lap 68 more than 42 seconds ahead of second-place Kurtis Roberts (Honda). Jake Zemke made it an all-Honda podium, taking the third spot as well as being the final rider to finish on the same lap as Duhamel.
Today’s 200 was the first to feature Formula Extreme 600s rather than the Superbikes which have run the 200 since the 1980s. With his past Daytona experience, combined with his dominating performance in the 2004 Formula Extreme championship (he won eight out of eleven races and took the championship), Duhamel was the clear favorite for the 2005 Daytona 200. This was his fifth Daytona 200 victory, equaling Scott Russel’s record at the Speedway.
Duhamel’s victory today gives him an early lead in the championship. For more info, results, and points, check out the official AMA Superbike website.
