It is not a surprise that Ducati will be introducing a production naked bike housing the awesome 1100cc V4 engine from the Panigale V4 sportbike. This machine, in prototype form (pictured, with aerodynamic wings), will make its debut beneath Carlin Dunne beginning June 30 at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
According to the Ducati press release below, the production version will be shown at EICMA this Fall, and go on sale in March of next year. The engine makes well over 200 horsepower at the crank in the Panigale V4, so this will be one fast naked bike.
Here is the press release from Ducati:
- The Bologna-based Company makes Streetfighter V4’s arrival in 2020 official
- The PPIHC race track in Colorado (United States) chosen as the proving ground for the new Ducati Streetfighter model
- Carlin Dunne, who won the 2018 edition of the race, will be riding the prototype
Borgo Panigale (Bologna, Italy), 13 June 2019 – Ducati is preparing for the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb; in this edition, which will start on June 30th, Carlin Dunne will tackle the most famous hill climb in the world on the Streetfighter V4 prototype.
As part of the development process of the new model, the “Race to the Clouds” has been identified as an ideal proving ground for testing the high performance of the Streetfighter V4.
In keeping with tradition, the Streetfighter V4 derives directly from the sporty Panigale V4 stripped of its fairings, and fitted with high and wide handlebars. The high performance of the 1100 cm³ Desmosedici Stradale is kept in hand by aerodynamic profiles specifically designed for this model.
The prototype will race with a “pixelated” livery, designed by the Centro Stile Ducati; unlike the normal practice with prototypes, the livery does not hide the lines, but exalts them by deliberately revealing how the bike will finally look.
“The Streetfighter V4 will be one of the stars of the Ducati World Premiere 2020,” declared Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati. “Streetfighter V4 is the Panigale for road riding; so there was no better stage than the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for what will be the highest performance Streetfighter ever put into production.”
The bike will be presented to the public at EICMA 2019 and will be available in Ducati dealerships starting from mid-March 2020 onwards.
See more of MD’s great photography:
This is a stunningly beautiful motorcycle.Visually engaging on multiple levels. The wheels look light! Ima thinking that 200 horsepower is a bit too much for little old me but I still want it.
I’m not sure why they chose to release photos in the digital disguise graphics.. i guess they want us to see what we want to see? I see a really droopy headlight, but all else could be quite nice with the production paint job..
Spec sheet looks good… i guess we’ll see how the road tests go!
At least nobody is blaming the millennials for this slight mishap of graphic design. Not yet, anyway.
I do not like Ducati at all for the sound.
May be V4 is better
Well Royal Enfield use to have the Ugliest bikes along with Moto Guzzi add this one also..
If Ducati is interested in entering the ‘ugliest motorcycle’ contest, this turd is a contender. Gawd don’t anyone in authority inspect their new bikes when they wheel them into the light of day?
You people just don’t get it. Stare at the front end. The angry Alien look is in. And the jacked up back end, well I see that in my yard daily. It’s mating time and the birds use that come hither stance to get laid.
It looks very reminiscent to the prior Streetfighter. It’s a good looking bike IMO.
I just dont understand why a rider’s rear end has to be so jacked-up on all these new bikes. Why cram your family jewels up against the tank like that? Geez louise.
If you are complaining about comfort it isn’t the right bike for you, and you aren’t the right rider for this bike. Look at MotoGP bikes. Their back end is “jacked up.” It helps the rider get his weight over the front wheel and move side to side. It helps keep the rider in the best position for fast cornering.
Ralph has it right.
This is a naked race bike, after all…..
Aside: I wonder how long it is before the Pike’s Peak folks slap a power limit or something on bikes – their ban of supersports (which I found ridiculous to begin with) can only go so far when companies like Ducati are willing to go “oh yeah, fine” and build bikes like this.
No kidding, right? They ban the chassis/ergonomics that are actually tailor made to offer the greatest control and stability while going fast on tarmac. And now all of that power is available with a traditional handlebar but a little less front end feel. Brilliant.
They’ll probably forgoe capping power and just exclude motorcycles again for good this time.
An excellent example of the “pre-crashed” aesthetic.
Started by Yamaha in 1984-Fazer 700.
Yamaha didn’t have a Fazer 700 in 1984 ..
w/ that paintjob and 200 bhp, a car driver COULD arguably say “I didn’t see you. you just came outta nowhere…”
You guys are funny. You get yourselves in a tizzy criticizing these *obviously* temporary graphics on a PROTOTYPE. You know full well the production bikes will be solid red or grey.
On the other hand, Aprilia would use these *actual* graphics on a production bike, and you would eat it up. Worse yet, KTM would do the same thing, PLUS paint the frame orange, and you would trip all over yourselves heaping praise on them.
Damn broken record around here.
You must be listening to the wrong record, because I’ve read next to nothing in this comment section praising KTM designs. In fact, praise is pretty scarce for the look of most motorcycles designed after the 1990’s come to think of it.
You forgot to mention the “I could buy 5 Suzuki Bandits and a hip replacement for the price of this” crowd.
ohhhh come on… bandits are nice… and I need that hip replacement!!
And you have to adjust the valves every 1000 miles and it will cost $5000.
You haven’t priced hip replacements lately …
What’s wrong with orange frames?
You’re right about the paint job but. Car companies do it all the time to keep people guessing about the final design.
Plenty of KTM haters here as well.
It’s a good thing this is not the marketing department. If so, the only options we would have are 50 HP chrome plated cruisers (MIJ of course). We would all be faster riders though as a result.
Running neck and neck with the KTM for the ugliest front end, with the R1250R running a close third. Who actually likes those hideous headlights?
Upright seating position, sporting intent, 200 ponies to play with.
I shall call it “Fastidious””. Because it’s fast and it’s hideous.
Does it really have 4 aero wings for the street?
Cars have wings for street, why not bikes? I just can’t believe Ducati left off the rear tire cooling fairing they invented for MotoGP
lol…probably next years model will have that
Camo Z1000
I would just mount a headlight off a 90’s Monster and then paint it a single color. Done.
I’ll need to order up a pixellated set of leathers/helmet to match!
Surely that is not going to be the only color/graphics package offered.
Tough crowd. Che bella!
Just paint it red. problem solved
Yawn
The Ducati Streetfighter 1098 introduced in 2009 was a disappointment; seat hard as concrete that shoved the rider’s groin into the fuel tank, and handlebars far too low to be comfortable for the street. Let’s hope Ducati learned lessons and applies them to this 2020 Streetfighter.
Its handling was a bit unfortunate as was its throttle response. It was very difficult to ride at part throttle where the engine would buck and jump like it was very poorly tuned- likely over-lean fuel mapping. Holding a smooth line in a corner was a chore, partly because of the tuning issue. It would want to stand up and fall in, constantly switching back and forth with the engine. The older injected Super Sport seemed glorious in comparison. Yeah, the Streetfighter would have had to pay me to want to keep it.
Is this ‘Ugly Bike’ week?
I’m not sure the base bike is any uglier than most naked bikes with mechanicals in full view, but the graphics treatment is “controversial”.
To say the least.
I like bikes with with “mechanicals in full view.” It makes them look tough and masculine. One of the best looking bikes IMO is the Triumph Speed Triple. With its fully exposed engine and frame it is the epitome of tough and masculine.
Week? Seems to have been going on for years.
No. It’s Stuck-in-a-rut Complaining Old Farts Week. Today’s theme: – Boring old geezers who think everything has to look the same as it did 50 years ago.
Dirk’s dorks otherwise known as the milk crate brigade.
Next, we’ll be hearing about the poor passenger seat and no provisions for luggage. And don’t forget the “useless” fuel tank that won’t let you go 600 miles between stops.
You misspelled “decade”
It’s like assless chaps. Something needs to be back there.
