The MotoGP season kicked off with a bang today in Jerez, Spain, with the race win going to Ducati-mounted Loris Capirossi, closely followed by rookie phenom Dani Pedrosa (Honda). Nicky Hayden (Honda) was third.
Defending champ Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) finished a dismal 14th after being taken out in the first corner and remounting dead last. Potential title contender Sete Gibernau (Ducati) pitted on Lap 3 and never restarted.
