Las Vegas Supercross Results

An epic battle among three of the greatest living supercross riders was staged in Las Vegas, Nevada this evening. With just five points separating them going into this final AMA Supercross main event, James Stewart (Kawasaki), Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki) and Chad Reed (Yamaha) each ran virtually flawless races at a similar pace, with the start making all the difference. Stewart got the holeshot and won, while Carmichael finished second, with Reed third. The top three riders set a blistering pace that quickly separated them from the rest of the pack. In the end, Stewart’s race win tonight secured his World Supercross GP championship, while Carmichael secured his fifth AMA Supercross title.

This was Ricky Carmichael’s last supercross race as a full-time supercross contender. Beginning next year, he will only race “selected” events.

Also this evening, Andrew Short (Honda) easily won the East/West Supercross Lites Shoot-out after several top riders crashed in the main event. Among the favorites going down were Davi Millsaps (Honda), Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki) and Josh Grant (Honda). Villopoto’s teammate Grant Langston injured his wrist in practice and did not compete in the main event. Finishing second behind Andrew Short was Mike Alessi (KTM), with Thomas Hahn (Honda) third.
