Ricky Carmichael’s (Suzuki) retirement party was a disaster when Carmichael suffered a rare crash and injury in Moto 1 shortly after passing James Stewart (Kawasaki) for the lead. Carmichael immediately returned to the pits, and left for his home state of Florida to be evaluated by his physician. The injury is to Carmichael’s left shoulder. With Carmichael gone, Stewart cruised to victory in both motos — taking the overall win. Second overall on the day was Honda’s Davi Millsaps (3/2), with Honda’s Travis Preston was third (4/3). Carmichael won the championship in the Motocross division several weeks ago.
In the Motocross Lites class, Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto dominated Glen Helen with 1/1 moto scores, and takes the Motocross Lites championship in the process. Mike Alessi (KTM) finished second overall (2/2), while Ben Townley (Kawasaki) finished third (3/3).
